History of Folsom
Originating at the Alma Post Office situated approximately 12 miles to the north of nearby Covington in 1904, Folsom real estate quickly became known for its logging industry. In fact, by 1908, it had built up a drug store, several general merchandise stores, a meat market, a barbershop and even a high class hotel, considered one of the best in the state. Its progress was so impressive to the Louisiana government, that they decided to incorporate in 1915. Logging eventually gave way to a booming plant nursery industry as well as several highly regarded horse farms. These continue to be the mainstays of the local Folsom economy.
Education in Folsom
Folsom schools are served by the St. Tammany Parish School District. Folsom Elementary and Folsom Jr. High School are the only public schools located within Folsom real estate. High school students attend school in nearby Covington.
Things to See and Do in Folsom
The 900 acre Global Wildlife Center has provided a home for many rare wild animals from all across the United States and even other countries. Visitors get to enjoy a wagon tour where they will meet up with giraffes, zebra and even an exotic addax. It's a wonderful place to get up close and personal with wild animals while learning more about their environment and day to day habits.
